Walcott Parish Council

Welcome to the website for Walcott Parish Council which has been designed to help keep everyone informed of important matters that the council are discussing, forthcoming events and facilities in our village.  We were created in 2008 and encourage as many people as possible in Walcott to become actively involved in matters of concern and development issues in our village.

Our aim is to be able to work with North Norfolk District Council to maintain the natural environment we all enjoy, while developing and enhancing it as necessary to improve our lives in the 21st Century.  The Parish Council meetings are a focal point for everyone in the village to voice their suggestions, ideas, and concerns so please do come along and bring your views to our attention in the public open session.

We look forward to welcoming you at our meetings, the dates and times for which can be found on this site.

WALCOTT VILLAGE SIGN

WANTED – a volunteer or volunteers!

The Parish Council has debated restoring/replacing the Walcott Village sign; it was felt that the community should be asked if there are any volunteers to restore the existing sign.  If so the Council would fund any materials etc.  Anyone interested can contact any member of the Council or the Clerk on 01263 834551 (email: nnparishes@tiscali.co.uk)

Some Information For Unpaid Family Carers

An organisation called Chill4us Carers has asked us to forward this message.

Hi,

I am contacting you to see if you can let unpaid family carers know that we may be able to provide them with a free recycled laptop or a brand new PC tablet if they live in Norwich or Norfolk.

We can also provide a free basic IT lesson in their own home, if they are unable to get out.

Please can you let family carers know about these free services that we can provide, it could change their life.

We are all volunteers helping more carers to get on the internet established in 2009.

Thank you

Kind regards

Wendy Maxwell

Some advice on Action During A Power Cut

UK Power Networks is once again monitoring the weather closely and we are in regular contact with the Met Office as the forecast of unsettled weather develops. Strong winds and occasional heavy rain is predicted to affect the East and South East of England Wednesday night 14th January into the early hours of Thursday morning.

If the storm materialises and affects power supplies, our paramount focus will be on restoring electricity to customers as quickly and safely as possible.

We are currently monitoring the weather closely and are in regular contact with the Met Office as the forecast develops. Click here for the latest forecast from the Met Office.

Our electricity network is built to be resilient but extreme weather can affect overhead power lines. Our emergency plans have been put in to place, with hundreds of extra engineers and other staff on duty to deal with situations as and when they arise.

In communication with customers, we urge the public to stay well clear from power lines and anyone spotting a damaged power line needs to report it to UK Power Networks.

For any power cut enquiries please contact us 24 hours a day by:
• Calling 0800 31 63 105 or 0333 32 32 105 if calling from a mobile.
• Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk for the latest update
• Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/powercut and type in your postcode to our live power cut map
• Follow us on twitter for updates @ukpowernetworks
• See updates on our Facebook page here

UK Power Networks has a Priority Service Register for those who may be more vulnerable and require extra assistance in a power cut. You can find out more information on our website: http://bit.ly/1c3CkOO. We currently work with the British Red Cross who can activate their volunteers to support vulnerable customers if power is affected.

Preparing for a power cut

Below is some advice on how our customers can prepare for a power cut:
Keep our freephone number handy
See the website for some useful videos offering you advice during a power cut.
Keep spare batteries for radios and torches – local radio stations often broadcast helpful information
Keep an old-fashioned corded phone which you can plug in, as cordless phones won’t work in the event of a power cut
Dress warmly in several layers of clothing, stay in one room or even get into bed
Take care if using candles, tea-lights and other naked flames
Keep fridges and freezers closed, with a blanket over as they will stay cold for many hours
Switch off all your electrical equipment, except one light which will let you know when the power comes back on
Remember the street lights may also be off so take care if you go out
Look out for elderly neighbours; please consider taking them round a flask of hot water or hot food
